Barry Clark

Barry Clark’s career has encompassed opera, operetta and oratorio. He has appeared with many of the UK’s companies such as Scottish Opera, Dublin Grand Opera, New Sadler’s Wells Opera, D’Oyly Carte and Carl Rosa Opera. His roles include Pinkerton ‘Madama Butterfly’, Ottavio ‘Don Giovanni’, Don Basilio ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’, Lionel ‘Martha’, Camille ‘The Merry Widow’, Alfred ‘Die Fledermaus’, Fenton ‘Falstaff’ and Don Jose ‘Carmen’.
For London City Opera he has appeared as Goro in ‘Madama Butterfly’ and has specialised in other character roles in opera such as Spoletta ‘Tosca’, Beppe ‘Pagliacci’ and Arturo ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’.
For Covent Garden Festival he has appeared in a new version of ‘The Impresario’ and as the Learned Judge in Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘Trial by Jury’.
In oratorio he has sung for various societies both in the UK and Ireland. Works include ‘Messiah’ Handel, ‘The Creaton’ Haydn, ‘Requiem’ Mozart, ‘Hiawatha’ Coleridge Taylor and ‘Crucifixion’ Stainer.
Over the last couple of years, Barry has also been playing character and patter roles in Gilbert and Sullivan and other operetta works. He has appeared as the Duke of Plaza-Toro in ‘The Gondoliers’ and played Reginald Bunthorne in ‘Patience’ at Gawsworth Hall Festival in 2004. Future plans in this field include Baron Zeta in ‘The Merry Widow’ and Sir Joseph Porter in ‘HMS Pinafore’ with Carl Rosa Opera.
